"Techno-Gro" is an LLC that is based out of beautiful Sterling, Michigan in Northern Michigan only minutes from
Lake Huron.
It was founded in 2001 by John Freeman to look further into the combining of modern technology and the
growing of plants; especially food producing plants such as tomatoes, peppers, lettuce and beans. An interest in growing
"hydroponically" (using soilless based means) came about after doing research into growing producing plants year
round in Northern Michigan and that almost anyone would have the room for inside.
Hydroponics is not an "ultra
modern" or "faddish" method of growing plants. Yes, NASA uses it aboard the Space Station for growing, but
how about the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Hydroponics today is more commonly known as growing using something besides soil
or dirt as the substance that the plant is put into. Something as simple as using sand or saw dust to hold the plant roots
in place or as in some of the new hydroponic systems, the roots hang down in a chamber and they are sprayed or misted with
a combination of water and all of the nutrients that the plant needs to grow, produce and be healthy. The plants you grow
in your home are not usually placed in just plain soil but you probably use a "Potting Soil" that is mostly comprised
of Peat Moss, sand, and other items such as moisture beads or time release fertilizers. All of these are "non-soil"
items that help to hold the plant in place, provide it with the food and water that it needs to be healthy.
